Finalists in the Midlands Business Awards

Midlands Business AwardsAt Real Point we're big fans of networking. For us it's been one of our major ways of growing our business. So when we heard about the Networker category in the Midlands Business Awards, we decided to give it a go!

The good news is, we've made it to the finals! I was interviewed earlier this week by an intimidating line up of seven judges, more than anyone on X Factor or Strictly faces (or so I'm told!). With questions on why I think networking is important, why I network, where I network, how much time I spend networking and how I use Social Media in networking, the ten minute interview felt like two and before I knew it I was being hustled back out the room.

Now we just have to wait and see. The awards are on the 3rd February 2012, so we've just got to hold our breath till then! We have some tough competition from some well known names on the Midlands networking scene, so glad to have made it this far and may the best one win . . . .

Kings of the Castle at Warwickshire & Coventry FSB awards

A great night out on Friday for Real Point, we recently entered the Federation of Small Businesses (FSB) Warwickshire & Coventry Awards in the staff training and development category, and Friday was the big revealing at Warwick castle.

The big question, who were going to be Kings and Queens of the castle?

Real Point at the FSB awardsWell, Real Point didn't quite make it as King, so does that makes us knights? We came runner up in our category. But it was great to see friends and clients also doing well in the awards, and a fantastic time was had by all. If you haven't entered any business awards, why not? It's a great chance to get some press coverage for your business, one of the business owners who I spoke to had already increased business from coverage in his local paper.

And in case you're wondering, Broad Lane Vets from Coventry, were crowned business of the year. For the winners in each category, visit the FSB website.

Work life balance awards

Commended - Birmingham Work Life Balance awards 2008 We were back at the work life balance awards lunch this year at the Birmingham Botanical gardens, to find out if we had managed to match our win from last year. The competition was hotter with more entrants, so what would happen . . . .

The Birmingham Best Business awards for the development of work life balance are organised by Mariann Harris, Birmingham Early Years. The awards are "a platform to recognise and celebrate businesses that have boosted their performance and created competitive advantage through the implementation of innovative approaches to improving Work-Life Balance and flexible working which enhances both customer and employee outcomes".

We heard from Sue Beardsmore, who shared her personal story of some of her challenges in work life balance while working in the media industry, as well as Councillor Rudge, Birmingham cabinet member for equalities and human resources.

Well, we'd made it to the finalist list but the top spot was not to be this year, that was won by the studio, but we did get a commended for ongoing commitment to work life balance. So I can rest happy in knowing that Real Point is still recognised as a great place to work!

If you're interesting in joining the competition then contact Mariann Harris, Birmingham Early Years, on 0121 303 9838, or by email at mariann.harris@birmingham.gov.uk.
