Speaking on web design, usability and SEO launch checklists at Coventry Business Network

Yesterday, I had the opportunity to speak at Coventry Business Network on how we add value to the web design process with a structured approach, ensuring our client's success online through search engine optimisation, usability testing and website launch checklists.

It was 10 minute spot so I took the opportunity to film it, apologies for moving around too much and occasionally chopping the top of my head off (though you may think that's a good thing!)

There's quite a lot of useful information in there that you can take and apply to your own website, if you would like a copy of  the hand out mentioned drop me an email - ian@realpoint.co.uk.

Real Point take part in the 4am Project in Coventry

Early in the morning, while it was still dark . . . No I wasn't off to see an empty tomb but for the third year running I was taking part in the 4am Project. It's a great concept to encourage you to see your local area, in my case Coventry, in a different "light"!

Last year I took a stroll round the canal basin area in the centre of Coventry and the year before through the main Coventry shopping precincts. This year I stayed a bit closer to home and took a stroll round Jardine Crescent in Tile Hill (the links take you to the photo sets on Flickr). The light from the various street lights gives the pictures a very abstract look and almost makes them look like negatives. The outcomes are often surprising and buildings that in normal daylight are perhaps not the most attractive, take on a dramatic stance. The images certainly go into the design inspiration notebook, so watch out for maybe one of the textures appearing in the background of one of our next website design projects.

So if you can drag yourself out of bed at the unearthly hour of 4am, why not get involved? We'd love to see the results.

4amProject 2010

Coventry Transport Museum ClockI once again set my alarm for a time way to early to be up on a Sunday morning and took part in the 4amProject, taking photos around Coventry at 4am in the morning on the 4/4. This time I visited the Canal Basin and Coventry Transport Museum, hope you like the outcome.

This is the second time I've taken part, last year's photos are still on Flickr, and the 4am Project's growing Flickr stream provides a fascinating glimpse of a time most of us never see, all around the world. So why not get your camera out and see what happen's where you live and work at 4am in the morning? Or if getting up then is just a bit too early, get some creative inspiration from the images of others.

4am Project

Inspired by a piece on the Midlands Today news last night about the 4am project, I was up at the unearthly of 3:30 am this morning in order to take photos around Coventry City Centre!

The idea presented was for people all around the world to take photos of their world at 4am local time on the 4th of April, 4:00 - 04 -0 4. Always up for a challenge and the chance to do something different with images, I decided to take a complete tour of Coventry Centre, which I can assure you, is a very different place at 4am in the morning.

So if  you want to know what the world in Coventry is like when you were safely tucked up in bed, take a look at my snapshots or visit the flickr 4amproject photostream. Maybe it will inspire you to get up and explore your world at 4am in the morning, though, to warn you, the only place I could find for a coffee at that time in the morning as McDonalds!
